Now the guy with the big ears, false smile, and amazingly white teeth has gone, a sort of curious malaise has set over the country. Most people seem to think that it wont work, but are willing to give it a try, and appear to be optimistic.

For one, I'm happy that we seem to have welcomed an old etonian and an equally well educated person into number 10. I don’t buy this whole 'being in-touch with the people' thing, as the people should really think this through. Who do they want in no.10? Some poorly educated person from an inner-city comp or to have two people who have had the benefit of a first class education? Intelligent broadcasters seem to be comparing David to Benjamin Disraeli, alas most of the country who would allegedly be better placed to represent the nation in no.10 are scratching their heads wondering who Benjamin Disraeli was.

Indeed, economy aside, GCSE History should be a priority for the new Government. The economic situation (and common sense) has taught us that we need to learn from the mistakes of history. Sadly, anyone younger than 40 is likely to believe that world history only includes Hitler and Lee Harvey Oswald. That everything in the world will be fine as long as we don’t vote for fascists, or stand in library windows popping-off presidents.

Which brings me back to the last incumbent of No.10. Gordon. I don't feel sorry for him. He kept rattling on about the values he was given in his childhood. He was middle class, appropriately educated, and had a minister father. To me that makes him out of touch. Maybe he should have kept his eye on popular opinion rather than appearing aloof, having that look that he was in someway superior, and simply paying lip service to the British Public and their real needs.

If, after last weeks love-in, Nick and Dave turned up to Chris Graylings B&B, he might wish to turn them away.

I'm hopeful though. Maybe this is the new politics. One thing is for sure though, it had better work.
